11.14.16 - Ford Expedition

As Ford’s largest SUV, the Expedition comes in a formidable size and shape to give us the drive and the power we want to enjoy on and off the road. This big brute offers you three rows of seats that can be comfortable to ride in and the towing capacity to pull up to 9,200 pounds behind it. The Expedition has been one of the most admired vehicles on the market for many years and has never made apologies for being a large SUV that rides high and on a truck chassis to give us the vehicle we’ve wanted to enjoy.

The Expedition comes in the standard model and the EL model which is the longer version to give you a pair of models to make use of and enjoy the drive. While large vehicles can be more difficult to park and handle on the road, for those who have enjoyed the capability and power of the Expedition, this is the vehicle that’s chosen more often for the work that needs to get done or for the ride out to the off road camping, fishing, hiking or boating locations for a great weekend in the sun and outdoors.

For 2017 the Expedition has had some upgrades given to it. This big SUV has added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the menu of features that you find in the Sync 3 infotainment system. The Base XLT model adds HD Radio as standard fare for you to enjoy the ride with the music you want to listen to. As a model that has the power you want and the ride you need, this big brute actually uses two fewer cylinders than those of other automakers, allowing the Expedition to be more fuel efficient than most of the others on the road.

Speaking of the engine of the Expedition you’ll find a powerful 3.5-liter twin turbocharged V6 under the hood. This engine is able to produce 365 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque to give you enough power to get the job done. This is the only engine offered for this SUV it makes use of a high performing six-speed automatic transmission that can be set up with either 2WD or 4WD. The standard model with 2WD will give you 15 city/21 hwy mpg, while the 4WD model provides 15 city/18 hwy mpg. The EL models show up with 15 city/20 hwy mpg in the 2WD version and 15 city/19 hwy mpg in the 4WD variants.

The Expedition may not feel a lot like a Ford when you only have one engine to choose, but there are four trims that you can select from for this SUV. These trims are the base XLT, Limited, King Ranch and Platinum. For the XLT you will have a six-way power driver’s seat, power adjustable pedals, a leather wrapped steering wheel, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, a six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth wireless connectivity and a USB port. Move up to the Limited model and you have leather upholstery, dual zone climate controls, heated and cooled front seats, a power liftgate, the Sync 3 infotainment system, driver’s seat memory, and a power folding third row of seats. The King Ranch adds more comfort with better leather, blind spot monitoring, a navigation system, power deployable running boards and chrome exterior accents.

Of the features that are part of the Expedition the EcoBoost engine and the Sync 3 infotainment system are two of the most impressive features on the menu. The EcoBoost V6 allows you to enjoy not having a thirsty V8 engine under the hood while the Sync 3 system makes it easy for you to have one of the best infotainment systems on the market today with all the items you want to enjoy.

The Ford Expedition for 2017 is a big brute with plenty of modern items that make a huge different in the driving you want to do. This big SUV is a great mode that gives you the space for the whole family and the ability to bring whatever gear you need with you. Let this be your next large SUV by checking it out at your nearby Ford dealership.
