11.08.16 - 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer

Mitsubishi has been around a long time in the market and the Lancer offers a current model generation that dates back a full decade. While this means the Lancer comes to us as a model that has been passed by many others when it comes to options, powertrains and technology the Lancer continues to be a car that gives you AWD and aggressive looks while also bringing you a long warranty to enjoy. This combination is enough to give you a car that’s still a good car to drive at a decent value which is great for your commute.

When it comes to this size of car this is one of the only ones in this segment that offers you AWD, the other one is the Subaru Impreza. With a ten year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty this is a car that is covered for a long time. For 2017 this car actually gains a few items such as a standard rearview camera and a new display audio system. On higher trim levels you can have 18-inch wheels to give you a better ride. Unfortunately the GT is no longer offered and is the most recent trim level to leave the lineup.

There are two engines that make their way under the hood of the Lancer. The base engine is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that brings you 148 horsepower and 145 lb.-ft. of torque and is only set up in FWD. This engine can make use of either a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic to give you 24 city/33 hwy mpg for the manual and 27 city/34 hwy mpg for the CVT automatic. The next engine is a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that gives you 168 horsepower and 167 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine only uses the CVT and is set up in AWD to give you 23 city/30 hwy mpg to give you an affordable car to drive.

The Mitsubishi Lancer starts out around $18,630 for the ES 2.0 model while the automatic will increase the price by $1,000. The top of the lineup is the SEL model which starts out at only a little less than $23,000 and can end up at a much higher cost when different option packages are added to the car. This pricing structure gives you a car that easily makes an affordable choice on the market for your driving needs.

At the base model of the Lancer you will have a 6.1-inch touchscreen audio display, a rearview camera, alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, a four-speaker audio system, HD Radio, USB ports, seven airbags, traction and stability control and the ten year warrant on the powertrain along with a five-year/60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty along with five years of roadside assistance regardless of the miles driven. This warranty package alone makes the Lancer a great choice and one that’s easily an affordable choice in the market of compact sedans.

If you want a Lancer that brings you more to enjoy the larger engine and CVT are recommended. The SE and SEL models have a sport tuned suspension, heated front seats, and an improved audio system. Move all the way up to the SEL and you will have leather upholstery, rain sensing windshield wipers and automatic headlights. The Sun & Sound package adds a sunroof and a Rockford Fosgate audio system while the navigation system, rear parking sensors and roof rack are all stand-alone features on this car.

The Lancer has always has a sporty appearance and manners. This is the car you want if you’re shopping in the compact sedan category. With the benefit of the AWD you can have a fantastic ride and handle some carving of the corners to be ready to ride in a car that’s giving you all it has for your enjoyment. This is a car that is a bit dated in regards to equipment, but it has a full list of great ways to enjoy the ride no matter what road you happen to find. If you’re looking for a great way to have the ride you want and still spend less, the Mitsubishi Lancer is one of the best ways for you to enjoy the ride on your daily commute.
