Acura TLX

In recent years, trends state that there has been a massive decline in the purchase of sedans. Many people are favoring the larger offerings of the crossovers and sports utility vehicles, and sedan popularity have fallen off quite a bit. In fact, sedans have started to get kind of a bad reputation, when they used to rule the industry in terms of family-friendly vehicles. Acura has always been a leader in the car business in terms of sedans, but the fall off has had an impact on even their numbers. Perhaps, however, the redesigned TLX may change all of that.

Beginning in 2014, Acura began production of the TLX, a four-door mid-size luxury sedan. It was a merging of two former Acura models, the TL and TSX sedans. Constructed in Marysville, Ohio, the TLX was ready for sale by August of 2014 for the 2015 model year. It was offered in both a four-cylinder and a V6 version and it sold modestly in the year it was released. 2015 and 2016 featured better sales, and Acura quickly made the decision to give the car a facelift for the 2018 model year, with sales beginning in June.

With a starting price tag of $33,000, the TLX is offered in a two-hundred-six horsepower inline 4 engine, two-hundred-ninety horsepower V6 engine, and an all-wheel-drive version of the V6. It was given a sportier look, likely in hopes of attracting the audience that is still favoring the four-door compact models. It’s also been updated with the newest technology to keep things competitive with other cars on the luxury market, without the incredibly high price tag typically associated with those models. Despite its more aggressive appearance, the TLX is designed to function with the ease of a sports car.

One feature that the TLX possesses is Acura’s trademarked Precision All-Wheel Steer system. While two of the engine packages make the vehicle a front wheel drive car, it drives like it isn’t. It adjusts automatically to corner with maximum precision. Gone are the days of clunky maneuvering from your sedan, as Acura steps up the game to ensure that the TLX performs even the most minute task with the greatest of ease. Even when simply changing lanes or braking, the TLX will keep your most precious cargo safe on the roads, no matter the driving conditions. Obviously, the AWD option ensures maximum safety even in inclement weather.

Acura’s Integrated Dynamics System, allows drivers to enjoy the full control of their 8-speed manual transmission or their 9 speed automatic. The IDS system lets the driver choose from one of four driving modes; normal, economy, sport, and sport +. Each of these modes offers drivers a different driving experience based on their personal desire for the car’s performance. The normal mode allows for standard driving, with the underlying focus being placed on both comfort and handling. The economy mode focuses largely on fuel consumption and will even adjust the climate control feature to stress the engine less. Sport mode allows drivers to truly enjoy the feeling of control as power steering is reduced and drivers are invited to experience the symphony of their engine. Sport + amps up the sports setting and let the driver really feel what the TLX can do.

The technology was obviously an important feature when redesigning the TLX, as it features all of the bells and whistles. While many cars focus on one type cell phone integration, the TLX has both Apple Car Play and Android Auto, allowing users of both operating systems to fully access the features of their phone safely from the display. In keeping with the newest tech, the TLX also features the latest and greatest in cell-phone charging; a wireless charging pad. With the Advance Package, drivers will be greeted with Acura’s Surround View Camera, a clear picture of every angle of your car.

While no longer at the height of their popularity, as SUVs have become more relatable and appropriately sized and constructed for the everyman, this sedan just may change your mind. Constructed using Acura’s dedication to quality and luxury, the TLX is everything you’ve been looking for in your next vehicle.
