01.22.16 - Aston Martin DB10

How many times have you gone to see a James Bond movie only to find yourself desiring the cars that were used in the movie after the event? For those of us who have enjoyed James Bond for many decades, all through the various Bond Men and Bond Women the cars have stood out as high class luxury items that we have desired for many years. Most of the cars used in the James Bond movies have come from one British automaker, Aston Martin, with a few coming from other luxury makers, but Aston Martin has provided the lion’s share.

Normally if you have watched one of these high adventure classics on the big screen or on television you have been able to head to the nearest Aston Martin dealer and test drive the car you just saw in the movie. Even if you aren’t able to buy these high class and exclusive vehicles you can see how much fun they are to drive and how engaged the driving dynamics are to learn why it makes sense to drive the James Bond cars, but this wasn’t the case with the new movie from the famed super spy.

The car driven in the new movie Spectre was not one that was built for production. This was a bit opposite to what is normally done with James Bond movie Aston Martin cars. Typically the movie selects a car that either is about to be a production model or already is and turns it into the James Bond car we admire in the film. For the first time ever Aston Martin made a car exclusively for the James Bond film and it was not one that would make its way to production for Aston Martin, leaving us a bit lost as to why we can’t test drive the latest James Bond movie car.

The car features in the movie Spectre is a DB10 that is powered by a 4.7-liter V8 which is attached to a six-speed manual transmission. This powertrain takes this carbon fiber car and can reach up to a top speed of 190 mph but there is one catch, and probably the reason it was not put to production, it has not been approved for use on public roads. Because of this you would be relegated to track time with this car and need to schedule that time to enjoy this otherwise large and powerful paper weight.

Did I mention you could actually buy this DB10? Yes you certainly can, on February 18 the actually DB10 is scheduled to be auctioned by Christie’s. Of course this car won’t go for a small price, there is already a $1.4 million reserve on it for the London, England auction. According to actor Daniel Craig this car has a few cool secrets for the owner to learn about and enjoy. Of course the proud winning bid can also enjoy the fact that the proceeds from this sale will be donated to Doctors Without Borders, a very worthy cause for the money of such a cool car to go toward.
