11.15.16 - Aston Martin-Red Bull AM-RB 001

Red Bull Racing has become one of the most exciting things in the world of motorsports and the different teams that want to partner with Red Bull to make the various racing series have experienced nothing but huge success. Currently Red Bull has partnered with Aston Martin to create a project that will be used for some serious racing to give a car to the racing series that will be absolutely insane. With everything else that Red Bull has offered over the years is it really any wonder that they have teamed with Aston Martin for a high level project?

I would say it’s no real surprise, but what you really want to know is what this car happens to be. The new project is called the AM-RB 001 and it was shown off earlier this year as a race car that would cost in the range between $2.6 million and $3.9 million to be the car that many race teams will want to drive on the track. This new car is expected to be insane and if the numbers pan out, it certainly will be, providing amazing track performance that could be seen in the Winner’s Circle in the near future.

The AM-RB 001 is powered by a brand new V12 engine that can rev up to 11,000 rpm. This car will only weigh in at 2,200 pounds and give any race team the power they want, which amounts to around 1,000 horsepower and the ability to accelerate from a standstill to 200 mph in only ten seconds. This car with its design will actually have a downforce of around 4,000 pounds for the track only packages. This is an insane amount of downforce and this is where the project becomes very interesting.

What does this amount of downforce mean in a car of this weight and size? It means that theoretically the car could drive upside down across the roof of a tunnel provided the car had reached the speed to do so, which would be absolutely insane. At the price this car costs, I don’t think any racing team will want to make this happen, but if anyone was willing to try and drive the car across the roof and be at the speed to do it, that would be an amazing feat of engineering and physics for all of us to behold.

The AM-RB 001 will also be able to corner at up to 4 gs to give the car the grip we want and the ability to be a great car for any race team to drive. Another interesting fact about this car is that Aston Martin plans to provide some of what they have learned in this process to their production supercars in the future. This sounds more like what we need to have on the market from them now and it will certainly be impressive when they can take something from this amazing car and put it to work in their production models.
