How Far Can We Go?

2016 S-Class Cabriolet

When you see the power numbers that are being produced you have to wonder how much more will be put into some of these cars.  Even though we once in a while see someone who has added a crazy amount of power or built an engine that is certainly over the top, but for automakers there are guidelines and government regulations that must be followed.   This puts a bit of a strain on finding the most power that can be pulled from engines that meet these regulations and bring us the most impressive and powerful cars on the market to date.

Match the power that we can see with the engaged driving of a perfectly tuned control system of a car and add a shell that is stylish and gorgeous and you have the beginning of something.  After this you add an impressive interior and then make it a convertible (just to put the cherry on the top) and you have a veritable dessert of a car that will excite and enthrall you every single time you decide to take a drive.

Now what car would have all of these features for you to enjoy?  Coming in for 2017 will be the new S-Class Cabriolet from Mercedes- Benz that has already been given the title of the most beautiful convertible on the market.  This nomination of course comes from Daimler, and they are a bit biased, but I certainly can’t disagree too much with the overall assessment.

Under the hood of the new AMG S65 sits a 6.0-liter twin turbocharged V12 that offers up 621 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft. of torque.  This is an increase over the S63 that is currently on the market using a 5.5-liter twin turbocharged V8 giving up 577 horsepower and 664 lb.-ft. of torque.   You would think this will make the S65 the fastest among the group, but the S63 is lighter and more agile with AWD, making it a bit quicker.  Even so, the S65 will make it to the sixty mph mark in only 4.0 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph.

Adding to the look and the ideal that this be the most beautiful convertible on the market the S65 is laden with chrome.  The grill, lower A-wing, front splitter, the mesh in the grill, the air intakes and even the 20-inch wheels all can be finished in chrome to give this gorgeous machine a look that seriously impressive to behold.  ON the inside of the car you are greeted with a blend of sport styling, comfort and luxury appointments to let you admire what a top end luxury sports car can be.

No doubt this car will require a high price tag for purchase.  For the coupe the S65 is a full $70,000 more than the S63, coming in at $230,000 and we can certainly expect the same for the Cabriolet.  That seems like a high price, but many will pay this much for what certainly appears to be one of the most impressive and attractive cars that will be on the road soon.
