03.03.16 - 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

Have you been paying attention to the automotive world? If not, let me fill you in a bit. We are now witnessing an age where SUVs have gotten smaller, sedans are getting larger, weight is being dropped and technology is advancing so rapidly no one can keep up. In this time when we seem to want our SUVs to be so small they aren’t any larger than wagons we have seen over the years. In fact, I would venture to say some SUVs that fall in subcompact segment of the SUV world are smaller in overall size than wagons that have been part of the automotive world from many years ago.

While these SUVs seem to be coming in smaller sizes there is one that actually became larger. The Mercedes-Benz GLC which now replaces the GLK from previous years and has to come in as a fitting model to take the place of this highly popular small SUV. The GLK was always a stout competitor when it was put up against the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5, which means the GLC will have to be a top performer to continue to lead this group of attractive and high quality SUVs.

Inside the cabin of the new GLC you will find a stitched dashboard, wood trim, satin metal finishes and high quality switches and knobs that resemble the new C-Class sedan that was upgraded and reintroduced just a year ago. This will give you a great place to drive this SUV from and since the SUV has gained some size we see more room for everyone, especially those in the back seat while riding on any road. This SUV, even though it’s larger, is perfectly at home in the city or out on the roads that meander through the mountains and valleys of the world.

Under the hood you will find a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that gives you 241 horsepower. this is smaller than the V6 which was under the hood of the outgoing GLK which resulted in an overall weight loss of 200 pounds even though this SUV is larger. The torque is actually the same as what was present on the V6 and this dynamic little four-banger is attached to an awesome nine-speed automatic transmission. There is a diesel and a plug-in hybrid model available for the GLC line with RWD being the standard offering and AWD available for an additional cost.

The ride for the new GLC feels comfortable and compliant. You can drive it anywhere and expect to have a smooth and refined performance which is perfect for the ride. With modes you can choose from for the transmission and steering such as Sport and Sport + you will be able to ensure the drive is right. With AWD as part of the package a rainy or snowy day won’t bother you either as the GLC will get the job done and keep on going to offer you the perfect ride in an SUV that has grown.

Not only has the GLC grown in size over what the outgoing GLK offered, but it will grow on you as well. You will have all the expected features such as keyless ignition, a power tailgate, collision avoidance, a navigation system, adaptive cruise control, a leather interior and much more to be able to enjoy the ride. What you will notice the most about this new GLC is the fact that you have a bit more space, improved fuel efficiency, and the Mercedes- Benz driving experience you have always wanted from an SUV that can deliver on all your driving desires.
