Even though the title may be a tease as the actually look of the new Camaro for 2016 has not yet been revealed and the expected release dates are not until May, the excitement of a new Camaro is great and has a huge buzz beginning in the auto world. As a car that has given us five previous generations of amazement and is a car that never succumbed to the fuel and emissions problems of the 1980s, the Camaro is expected to be a continued awesome vehicle that will show off as the leading pony car for Chevrolet and give many of us fans another reason to love this awesome car.

Currently, the released information from Mark Reuss, GM Executive Vice President, Global Product Development, allows us to know that over seventy percent of the architecture will be new and unique. The new Camaro is being built on GM’s Alpha platform that has already underpinned the Cadillac ATS and CTS which may show clues as to what we can expect this new Camaro to have on the inside. According to Chevrolet the only carryover parts are the Bowtie emblem and SS badge making it a complete redesign.

The engine is expected to be completely reworked and be offered as an all-new 6.2-liter LT1 V8 that makes use of a new “Tri-Y” tubular exhaust manifold and give more power than ever before. The new Camaro is also expected to be longer than the previous model to create a dash to axle ratio that is maintained along with a wider track that gives the car much more stability, which it may very well need with the greater power that it will produce from the signature sound of the small block V8 engine that will continue to take up residence in the engine compartment.

Even though this isn’t a lot of information to give any real idea as to what the new Camaro will actually show us, it seems pretty evident from previous models and the recent move toward cars that resemble their predecessors of the 1960s that the new Camaro may come in a form that looks like the muscle car versions from the 1970s since it has already been redone as one that resembled the classic 1969 model. The only way for us to know for sure is to keep watching and waiting to see what Chevrolet allows us to see.

Until that great unveiling of what the new 2016 model will show us, we can all sit by waiting with bated breath and biting our nails wondering what the new Camaro will be. One thing is for sure, Chevrolet has never has a misstep with this nameplate and we should expect the new Camaro to take advantage of all the improvement in aluminum and carbon fiber support and body parts to lower the weight and give the car a much better power to weight ratio. Of course this is so far just speculation and only the designers and builders at GM know what is about to come down the line and they aren’t talking.
