The Buick Encore has only been on the market for a couple of years, but even so, Buick is updating this model to give us more of the features and style that we want. As the only Buick model built in China for the US, the unveiling of the new Encore took place at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show recently. There was more for this new 2020 Buick Encore model, a larger version of this SUV was also revealed to give us a look at what a bigger model of this SUV could be.

The Right Move for the 2020 Buick Encore

Since its inception, the Buick Encore has been the best-selling model for the Buick brand. While we don’t know if one or both of the new versions of the Encore will make it to the US, we can certainly admire what these two new models have to offer. The newest member of the list is the Buick Encore GX which is a longer wheelbase version of the Encore to be a version that could offer more room and a great ride.

Platforms that are Different

The regular Encore is similar in size to the one we have right now and it offers you the look and the qualities that are found in the Opel Mokka, which is the model its heavily based upon. This version of the Encore uses the GEM platform which is an updated version of the Gamma II platform which stands for Global Emerging Markets. Strangely, the Encore GS is riding on the newer VSS-F platform which is being used in more of the larger SUVs from GM around the world. While we don’t have the statistics to tell us how much larger the new Encore GX is than the standard model, we can expect the larger model to make the transition to North America in the near future.

Engines that Can Make the Drive in the 2020 Buick  Encore Models

At least in China, the Encore models offered will use a range of four-cylinder Ecotec engines that will either use a nine-speed automatic transmission or an optional CVT transmission for the drive. While we’re not sure if these powertrains will be what we see in our market for the future, adding the right powertrains to the mix could allow us to have fuel-efficient driving in either the Buick Encore or Encore GX when they show up.

2020 Buick Encore is Stylish and Ready to Drive from Buick

No matter which powertrain is being used, the Encore models share the same sense of style and it’s a look that we certainly admire and enjoy. Upfront is a wide-winged grill that we associate with Buick. The lines and curves are attractive and the size is easy to admire with what we want to enjoy when it’s time for a drive. We’re sure to see more and learn more as the new Encore models come to the US to be the right SUV for us to drive and enjoy.
