2025 Nissan Sentra: Nissan’s Best-Selling Sedan Stays the Course

2025 Nissan Sentra: Nissan's Best-Selling Sedan Stays the Course

As one of Nissan’s top sellers, the 2025 Nissan Sentra is expected to stay much the same for the upcoming model year before chaging for 2026.

Last year, the Sentra enjoyed an updated front end and better fuel economy. It’s now in the fifth year of its current generation and will likely stick it out until a full redesign happens in 2026. That should yield new styling and infotainment upgrades.

One Rumored Change For 2025

No big changes have officially been confirmed, but one change is lighting up the rumor mill. Might the Sentra get a more powerful turbo engine? The Nissan Sentra is in its eighth generation, which was introduced in 2020. Like many of the top automakers, Nissan has broad plans to roll out EV models across the globe. It seems likely that a Sentra EV is somewhere on the horizon.

However, a sporty gas-powered Sentra might be less likely. The current Sentra is one of the best values on the compact car market. It’s stylish, roomy, and comfortable. One thing it’s not is fast. The rumored update for the Sentra involves adding a trim level or trim option that would include a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine. It’s likely to be the same one used in the Rogue.

For the Rogue, this engine puts out 201 horsepower and does a decent job of propelling the midsize crossover. However, the Sentra is quite a bit lighter than the Rogue and would definitely benefit from the spicy addition of more horsepower.

Nissan Hints at High-Performance Sentra

Nissan has hinted at a high-performance Sentra model as recently as the 2023 SEMA Show. A sporty Sentra is something missing from Nissan’s lineup, considering that its competitors like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla all have spicy versions that go above and beyond their economy car trappings.

A Nissan Sentra with 200 horsepower under the hood might not be blazing fast, but it would be quick and it would be close to on par with the Civic SI and GR Corolla. Considering Nissan’s price structure, a faster Sentra would still probably be the best value in its class.

While there’s still no confirmation of a faster Sentra for 2025, it’s something that could extend the appeal of Nissan’s compact sedan until a full redesign arrives for the 2026 model year. In the meantime, the Sentra is still a solid choice.

2025 Nissan Sentra Quick Facts

The 2025 Nissan Sentra is expected to arrive in the fall of 2024. Its starting price is expected to be $22,500, which again, makes it one of the best values in its class. The Sentra continues to deliver the most important aspects that buyers look for in a small sedan. It offers a long list of standard features, excellent fuel economy, and a roomy interior.

For the previous model year, the Nissan Sentra debuted a new transmission for better fuel economy. It also added more standard features and some revised styling. The cons of the Sentra mostly involve its slow acceleration and dated infotainment system.

Buyers looking at a new Nissan Sentra will probably want to weigh their options depending on whether a faster variant is made available. If not this year, then it’s likely to happen next year.
