The E350 starts the lineup with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four paired to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, good for 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard; 4Matic all-wheel drive is available as an option.

Step up to the E450 and you get a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with the same mild-hybrid assist, producing 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet. The electric boost smooths out stop-start behavior and helps the sedan glide off the line. 4Matic is standard here.

Both engines pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission, and the mild-hybrid system does its best work in the background, filling in torque before the turbo spools up and making the engine stop-start system nearly imperceptible in traffic.

Ride, Handling, and Daily Livability

Mercedes still tunes the E-Class to ride like a proper luxury sedan first, sport sedan second. The standard suspension soaks up rough pavement without floating, and the available air suspension with adaptive dampers takes that quietness up another notch. Rear-axle steering, optional on most trims, tightens the turning circle enough to make tight parking lots feel like a much smaller car.

Standard driver assistance features include automated emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise control with lane-centering is available as an option, along with a 360-degree camera on higher trims.

The E-Class competes directly with the BMW 5-Series, Audi A6, and Genesis G80 in the midsize luxury segment. What sets it apart is the blend of digital flash and old-school Benz substance. The BMW is sportier, the Genesis offers more value, the Audi is quieter in some ways, but the E-Class still feels like the most complete package if you want one car that handles long highway trips, busy city errands, and the occasional spirited drive without complaint.
