Cars that Just Weren’t Up to the Challenge

2015 Scion tC

As 2015 comes to a close we have seen several of the great cars of the year in a variety of ways, but have we looked at what seem to be the worst cars of the year?  It’s time to take a look at these cars and see what we have that should be improved for next year.  In some cases you might feel these are some of the cars that will serve you well in other cases you might understand why they are on the worst list and have been passed by and are in need of some serious upgrading.  Let’s take a look at the five worst vehicles of 2015 and see what you think.

Toyota YarisThe Yaris was upgraded for 2015 but still is a bit of a noisy drive on the road.  Part of what the Yaris is to be is an inexpensive and affordable mode of transportation.  From the company that brings us the Prius you would expect better than 32 mph on the highway.  With a slowly accelerating engine that seems under powered, even for a subcompact, the Yaris doesn’t give you much in the way of redeeming qualities for a car that should at least deliver great fuel mileage.

Scion tC This coupe that once was thought to be sporty is no longer.  It’s pretty boring and bland compared to other sport coupes in the same price range.  An upgrade somewhere would do the tC a huge amount of good because it is not only on the plain side, it’s a difficult drive with a heavy steering and stiff suspension making it rough even on smooth roads.  The only redeeming factor with this car is the fact it comes with a great deal of standard equipment and an easy shopping experience.

Mitsubishi i-MiEV The i-MiEV should show up as a good choice for anyone to drive with a 59 mile range and a recharge time of only six hours.  For the most part this would make a great city car, but most of the time city streets need more repairs than other streets which make for a rough ride that is certainly not improved with any form of suspension performance.  As a low priced EV this car needs to go ahead and be upgraded and come in at a price that will match the improvements made to the vehicle.

Mitsubishi MirageThe Mirage shows up as a small and inexpensive car that will not make you want to drive it for fun.  Mitsubishi is more focused on their SUV lineup, but those who want a car for commuting can handle the Mirage if they know they are getting a car that does off reasonable fuel mileage but very little else.  The engine is a small three-cylinder block that is completely unbalanced which makes for a vibration filled experience that is slow and noisy along with being cheap.  Thankfully Mitsubishi has already announced a refresh will be made for the 2017 model year.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited This may be the one vehicle in this group that truly does give you the performance you expect but is not a good on the road vehicle.  If you have a need for a great off road vehicle and spend most of your time driving on trails, this is a perfect vehicle, but if you only go off road occasionally and spend over half your time on the streets, consider something else to have good driving comfort.  The fuel mileage is also awful with the Wrangler showing up at only 17 mpg; horrible for commuting.

As the five worst vehicles on the market for overall performance these five do have a specific purpose which could fit your needs.  The challenge is understanding what all five of these are made for and keeping the vehicle within the comfort zone.  Of course if you want a vehicle that is going to give you the a great ride for a daily commute that is over a few miles, these five are certainly cars to stay away from as you will be sorely disappointed by the overall ride you receive and the lack of performance that you experience .
