Ford Announces Ranger PHEV For 2025

You can add the new Ford Ranger PHEV to the list of trucks for sale available in 2025.

Ford has announced that a plug-in hybrid version of the Ranger will offer 28 miles of EV range and should start production in late 2024 with deliveries ready to go in early 2025. Ford hasn’t said much else about the new Ranger model, so we can only speculate.

What We Know

Very little information was included in Ford’s initial press release for the Ranger PHEV. A tentative production date is set for late next year with deliveries likely beginning in early 2025. The Ranger should sport a 2.3-liter EcoBoost gas engine that will pair with a battery to provide roughly 28 miles of electric range. The battery capacity is currently unknown as well.

However, rather than focusing on the electric range, Ford hinted that you might want to save the power for something else. The Ranger PHEV will feature the Pro Power Onboard system with outlets in the cabin and truck bed. This means you can use tools and appliances at a job site or while out camping.

The Ranger PHEV is expected to offer 7,700 pounds of towing capacity and more torque than any other current Ranger model. It will also have 4WD, but Ford hasn’t said how fast the battery will charge or whether it will take up any significant load space.

Not Likely For the U.S. Market

Another thing to know about the new Ranger PHEV is that it’s unlikely to be among the trucks for sale in the U.S. market. Ford is promoting the hybrid Maverick, the PHEV F-150, and the F-150 Lightning EV for electric trucks for sale in the U.S. market. The Ranger PHEV is expected to be offered in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand by early 2025.

Right now, it looks like the Ford Ranger PHEV will provide some chart-topping torque compared to other models. According to Ford, it will have more torque than the 3.0-liter V6 diesel that’s available in the overseas Ranger. This engine makes 443 pound-feet of torque, so the new PHEV will likely exceed that figure.

As previously mentioned, the 28 miles of range might be better saved for other applications, such as operating the Pro Power Onboard system. The 28 miles is also an overly optimistic figure from the European WLTP test cycle. Using the Ranger PHEV as a generator instead might be the better option.

U.S. Ford Ranger Options

If you’re looking for Ford trucks for sale in the U.S. market, there are plenty of options. The new Ford Ranger comes in multiple powertrain choices, including a 270-horsepower 2.3-liter four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6 that makes an eye-popping 405 horsepower.

The latter engine is exclusive to the Ranger Raptor. If you’re hoping for a Ford truck on the electric side of things, you’ll have to look at the compact Maverick hybrid and the F-150 electrified versions.

At this point, Ford doesn’t have any plans to bring the Ranger PHEV stateside, so U.S. customers will have to consider different options.
