The Maybach is Back

2016 Maybach

For 2016 Mercedes-Benz will offer its S-Class sedan, which is the height of luxury with a model that is simply even more luxurious. With an additional 7.9 inches of wheelbase the Maybach shows off as a car that will be easy to love and understood as the top of the luxury food chain for Mercedes-Benz. Showing up with an all new design this Maybach is set to create a following that will not be passed by as quickly as its predecessor.

When the Maybach originally debuted in 2002 it was already considered outdated and by not changing it for ten years it quickly became a dinosaur amongst other automakers who were adding a high level of technology and refinement to their vehicles every couple of years. It didn’t help that the Maybach was given a retail price of $379,000 in 2013 for a top line mode and a base price of $200,000 this model was not for the general public to own and high end shoppers wanted something more as cars that were much less expensive offered better features for owners to enjoy.

With this redesign and relaunch of a high class sedan that is built for comfort and power the Maybach S600 is shorter than the old version allowing it to be much more maneuverable than ever before. Even though it’s shorter it offers more room in the rear passenger seat and allows for even taller people to stretch out and be seriously comfortable inside. The rear seat is actually where many owners are expected to spend their time, it is a car built for the rich who can afford a driver, and the rear seats recline and foot rests extend in order to allow occupants to work quietly, watch a movie or fall asleep.

This Diamler offering is powered by a familiar engine, a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 that offers a massive 523 horsepower and 612 lb.-ft. of torque. For owners who don’t mind driving themselves the Maybach does allow for acceleration to 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. To go along with this highly engaging and enjoyable power the Maybach shows up with a ton of interior features that make this car one of the best on the road. Obviously comfortable seats and surfaces are found everywhere with the addition of bespoke wood trim and a full length console that has deployable work tables.

Even though this version of the Maybach is better planned and equipped than the previous version it was somewhat rushed to production in order to be ready to launch for 2016 making it not much more refined than the S600, however it is at the top of the luxury food chain. If you are looking for a Maybach that has more of its own refinements and features wait an extra year and buy one of the 2017 models.

On the other hand, if you are looking for great luxury in a car that is built to pamper you and your business clients in the back seat or offer you an exciting drive from the front seat, the Maybach just might be the right choice for this year. To add even more to the conversation, Daimler will debut a Maybach S600 Pullman at the Geneva Auto Show for those who want more of the space that was present in the old 62 model. This will be a fun car to watch grow and develop over the next few years and I for one am looking forward to seeing what is next in the Maybach family.
