The Newest 2022 Toyota Tundra Has Hit Toyota Lots

In late 2021, it was revealed that the waiting lists for the Toyota Tundra were incredibly long. The new 2022 Toyota Tundras are now hitting Toyota lots, and the demand for the new truck is expected to be substantial. Nissan recently announced that it’s discontinuing the Titan as well, so if you want a full-size Japanese truck, your only option is now the Toyota Tundra.

All-New 2022 Toyota Tundra

The all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra has a rich heritage as one of the first globally available Japanese full-size trucks. The Tundra has taken years to work itself into the American full-size truck segment, but it now stands alone with the discontinuation of the Nissan Titan. The new Tundra will offer a ton of new features, but the base price is a pretty affordable $35,950. Two powertrains are available on the new Toyota Tundra:

-A twin-turbo V6 engine
-A hybrid twin-turbo V6

The regular twin-turbo V6 is the base engine, but it’s a strong, reliable engine in its own right. It also improves on the outgoing V8 engine by delivering 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.

i-FORCE MAX Powertrain

The real showstopper for the new Toyota Tundra is the available hybrid engine. The numbers are quite impressive with 437 horsepower at 5,200 RPM and 583 pound-feet of torque at the low RPM of 2,400. The new hybrid engine uses essentially the same platform as the base engine but includes a motor generator that provides extra power as transferred through the transmission. This engine is designed to provide the most power and efficiency for whatever you need. When you tow, the hybrid system adds extra power and torque. For city driving, throttle response is heightened. Off-road driving is also enhanced with low-end torque performance.

Off-Road Upgrades and Fuel Economy

TRD Pro Tundra models and 4WD Tundra models with the TRD Off-Road package get a long list of new off-road upgrades to improve trail performance. Multi-Terrain Select is one such feature with several adjustable settings to control traction. Another top feature is Downhill Assist Control, which helps you keep control of your vehicle going downhill by limiting vehicle speed.

Along with the off-road upgrades comes better fuel economy for the Tundra. The hybrid engine is expected to post better numbers than the base engine. Most 2WD Tundra models with the base engine can make 23-24 MPG on the highway.

With all these new features and the fact that the Tundra now stands alone as the only Japanese full-size truck available in the American market, it’s not hard to see why the initial waiting list got so long.
