We Learn More about the GMC Sierra

The new GMC Sierra will arrive at dealers later in the year or in the early part of next year and it will be a truck that offers you something more than the previous version.
The 2019 model year marks some serious changes for many of the pickup trucks that we love and admire with the Sierra being one of them. This truck will bring in a new diesel powertrain that gives us another option and allows us to have the diesel qualities we’ve wanted in this impressive truck.

The Numbers Have Been Revealed

The GMC Sierra will be offered with a 3.0-liter Duramax Diesel engine as an optional power choice when you buy the 2019 model. This impressive engine is ready to produce as much as 282 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s an incredible level of torque for you to have when you need to tow, carry, or haul something with your truck. Because the Sierra will be offered with this powerful engine under the hood, and we know that GMC and Chevrolet offer the same powertrains in their trucks, it’s easy to surmise that the Chevrolet Silverado will have the same diesel offering.

A Bit of a Question Still Looms

The GMC Sierra numbers were revealed from a Canadian dealer site and while horsepower and torque numbers are the same as the US, the fuel mileage numbers won’t be exactly the same. Canada doesn’t use EPA numbers, but the fact that the stated fuel mileage rating is equivalent to 28 mpg for a truck of this size, is exciting. We will have to wait to see what the numbers truly reveal when the US figures are calculated, but you can feel confident that the numbers won’t be much lower than the 28 mpg from the Canadian calculation.

Compare this Diesel to Other Diesel

The Duramax diesel engine will offer more power than both the Ford and FCA diesel engines. Ford uses a PowerStroke diesel engine which makes 250 horsepower and 440 lb.-ft. of torque while the FCA EcoDiesel engine offers you 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. The GM Duramax version shows up ahead of both of these engines to make it possible for you to have more of what you need in the new GMC Sierra. This new version of the Sierra will also offer you the towing capacity of up to 7,800 pounds.

Where Can You Find the Duramax Diesel Option?

When you’re shopping for the new 2019 GMC Sierra you’re going to be able to choose the new Duramax diesel engine when you take a look at the SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, and Denali trims of this truck. This means you’ll have the choice of this engine being the one you use in a variety of the different trims offered for the Sierra. Let the impressive power and fuel mileage make a difference for you when you need a great truck to allow you to get things done.
