Your Future Ram Electric Truck Might Involve Students’ Designs

Stellantis is now the parent company of Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, Dodge, and Fiat, and they are asking students to design the future Ram electric truck.

We’ve already seen the concept version of the new Ram 1500 Revolution, which should hit the market soon, but what comes after this truck? Sure, Ram could simply use the Ram electric pickup and build larger and smaller models to create a full truck lineup, but Stellantis is doing something special. High school students are being asked to submit their design ideas for the next electric truck, and some aspects of these designs might make it into the next truck.

The Drive for Design contest continues

Current vice president of Ram Truck and Mopar Design, Mark Trostle, got his start in the auto industry by inning the early version of the Drive for Design contest in 1987. This gave him the confidence to pursue his path in automotive design. Being a former winner, it’s easy to see why he would want to push for this contest to continue and ensure students that enter can potentially win some great awards, including a scholarship and design days.

How long does this contest last?

The current Drive for Design contest could be where we find the early design elements of the future Ram electric truck. This contest runs through April 21, and current students in grades 10-12 who are U.S. residents attending U.S. high schools are welcome to enter. The theme makes perfect sense since Stellantis has begun its electrification push with the new Ram that was first shown during a Super Bowl commercial and then on display at an auto show. The goal of the contest is to have students design the future of a Ram truck.

What do winners of this truck design contest receive?

The grand prize winner receives a Wacom MobileStudio Pro 16 tablet, their winning sketch featured on Stellantis’ social media platforms, and a summer design internship in the Ram Truck Exterior Design Studio.

There are prizes for the second and third-place finishers as well. These winners will receive an Apple iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, a Virtual Day of Design portfolio review with members of the Stellantis Design team, and a scholarship to the College for Creative Studies’ four-week summer program, VisCom 1.

These are some pretty cool prizes for the winters of this new truck design contest.

The current electric Ram is a great platform for future designs

Using the Ram 1500 Revolution as the platform to design the future Ram electric truck, we see tons of features that are unique to this pickup. While we’re still unsure whether or not some of these features will make it into the production version, this truck makes for a fantastic foundation for future designs.

The Ram Revolution has massive saloon-style doors

This new electric Ram 1500 truck showed up in its concept form without B-pillars. This means the doors open wide, and the rear doors have a rear hinge to offer a massive opening. With these doors, entry, and exit to this truck should be easier than in other trucks.

Admire the Electro-Chromatic roof

The full glass roof has electro-chromatic panels that are integrated into the roof rails. This roof can be controlled from inside the cabin and offer various interior looks to give you the style you want. This could easily become part of the future Ram electric truck style, and some students might incorporate this design into the mix.

Flexible interior layout

The Ram 1500 Revolution showed up with a third row of seats which are removable jump seats meant for short rides. These seats can be placed on the tailgate for some lawn chair fun like a tailgate party, watching fireworks, or simply looking up at the stars. The interior design could become a huge part of this contest, and it’s perfect for some creativity.

The front face shows a lot of versatility

These new designers will be competing to show off some fun designs and use an electric truck as the foundation. The future Ram electric truck could have an even more modern front end or offer some creatively designed lights, bumpers, and other styling elements.

The new Drive for Design contest is underway, and many high school students are ready to compete for the attention of Stellantis and the prizes offered. Will one of these students create the future Ram electric truck design? Maybe.
